About This Spot

Stepping into Stathi's Tavern feels like slipping into a quiet corner of Mani’s heart, where time slows and the layers of a small mountain village gently unfold around you. Nestled among narrow streets that wind through a village now whisper-quiet, this family-run spot carries a rare kind of warmth—a place where stories linger as much as the scent of wood smoke and olive oil.

The pace here is unhurried, inviting you to settle in and savor the simple pleasures of an evening shared with locals and travelers alike. There’s a gentle hum of conversation and occasional bursts of traditional music that transform the space into something almost ritualistic—a true reflection of community rather than spectacle. It’s the kind of place where Greek dancing around the tables happens spontaneously, where the focus isn’t just on eating, but on celebrating life in an authentic, unpolished way.

The dining experience at Stathi’s is refreshingly organic. There’s no printed menu handed to you; instead, dishes arrive on a large shared tray, offering a tactile invitation to explore. Seasonal vegetables, rich lamb chops, tender chicken brochettes, and vibrant spreads like melitzanosalata find their way to the table, each bite recalling the freshness of the surrounding landscape. The simplicity of the offerings—hearty, honest, and deeply rooted in tradition—encourages a communal spirit, as meals are as much about connection as nourishment.

This tavern seems to exist a little outside of time and trends, embraced by the handful of locals who keep its flame alive. Its off-the-beaten-path location means that reaching it requires a small adventure of its own, but once there, the quaint village and its mountain backdrop create a sense of serene escape. It’s not just a place to eat, but a moment to experience—a pause to appreciate the joy in local rhythms, genuine hospitality, and the music of place.

This place was fantastic. I recommend going when they have music on if you want to see a traditional greek taverna with Greeks dancing. This was as authentic a greek experience as I've seen in a long time. The village it is in had 240 permanent residents in 1990 and now has only 7. We drank and ate a lot for our money.

Authentic place with domestic food. music and very pleasant atmosphere. Focus is on good time there, not so on food. Plan to go there on Thursday when live music play. Everyone, from stuff to the Greek guest will make sure you have pleasant evening.

Lovely place, great service and amazing super tasty food. Just slightly strange (unique) that they don’t show the menu / prices beforehand, they just come up with a big tray and you pick whatever you fancy. Then you order your main plate from a few options they tell you - and you find out the price when they bring you the bill. Not super expensive either, but probably around 20€ onwards per person. Would really recommend.

Traditional Greek food experience with a warm welcome and a very pleasant atmosphere. Access is a small walk through the village with very narrow streets. We parked on the main road my advise if bringing a car would be do some research before going, This place is well worth the visit nestled in a tiny village hugging the mountainside serving gorgeous Greek food they don't have a menu the starters a brought out on a tray and you choose the dish you would like the knowlagable staff will advise you of the main courses on offer. A lovely experience if I come back to this part of Greece I will most defiantly be back here

If your in Mani... This is a must... You might need a fiat 500 to get there or a walk of 5min from the main road. But the food, atmosphere and friendlies... not often I give five star... I love it...

One of the most interesting and commendable food experiences in Outer Mani. You drive to a mountain village, perched on a slope with panoramic sea views - !must! leave the car on the main road as the village lanes are claustrophobically narrow. Sitting on the large cool terrace you are not brought a menu, but a large tray of mezedes - maybe 20 of them, hot and cold, all freshly prepared. You choose what to eat and they serve it to the table. After that you could order grilled meats - pork, beef, chicken or lamb. There's a compliment on the house after the meal. The only downside is that prices are never announced - you see them on the final bill. But they are just.

Just amazing. The food, the atmosphere, the heartfelt music, the people dancing around, the warmth of the employees at the restaurant. A go to place without a doubt.
